Independent Grocers of Australia (IGA) is an Australian chain of supermarkets. IGA is owned by Metcash, but individual IGA stores are owned independently. I have had the privilege of working with IGA at national, state and local levels for almost three years, and can honestly say, that these stores are the heart and soul of their communities.
From the Piccone family owned stores in Cairns, to Ainslie IGA serving its community since 1955 in Canberra, award winning Taylor’s Road IGA Perth, making 4,000 muffins in-store every single week and all the 1,400 stores in between; it is these stores that sponsor, support, build and champion LOCAL.
I had wanted to work with IGA when years ago I was sidelined at my youngest son’s soccer game. 4 Ingredients had sponsored my son’s team and the local Woombye IGA had sponsored the other. I knew then and there, at grassroots level, that it is the locally owned businesses building stronger communities.
